Home Page Sunday Schedule – Worship and R.E. classes will begin at 9 a.m. next Sunday, June 24. In worship we will be live-streaming the Sunday Morning Worship at the UUA General Assembly in Kansas City. The service will end at 10:30 a.m.

Because of the time conflict, Mindfulness Meditation will not take place on June 24, but Forum will start at 9 a.m. as usual.

Home Page Sunday Schedule – “Maintaining Hope Amid Despair” is the title of the sermon next Sunday, June 10, by the Rev. Dr. C.W. Dawson, guest preacher. Summer R.E. classes will begin, Forum and Mindfulness Meditation will take place as usual, and the Sanctuary Team will meet after worship.

New Photo Page: June 3, 2018 – Down by the Riverside – About 40 adults and 15 children attended the “Down by the Riverside” worship service and potluck on Sunday, June 3. You can see photos and a video of the happenings on this new photo page, which is also now linked on the Photos & Video page.

Home Page Sunday Schedule – Next Sunday, June 3, we’re taking church outdoors! Our main worship service, “Down by the Riverside” presented by Peter Holmes and the Green Sanctuary Team, will be at 10 a.m. down by the riverside at Katfish Katy’s campground on the Katy Trail in Huntsdale.

The outdoor worship will be followed by a potluck at 11 a.m. Please bring food and drinks for the potluck and folding chairs if you want them (we will have some benches). Also bring your own plates, cups and utensils.

Those who cannot or would prefer not join us at the campground can hear the same worship content at the church at 10:30 a.m.

In case of inclement weather, the main worship service will be moved to the church at 10:30 a.m.

The services at the riverside and at church will be multi-generational. Children are invited and welcome to attend, and there will be no religious education classes on June 3. Mindfulness Meditation also will not take place.

Inadvertently omitted from last week’s notice of website updates was a new video on the home page. You can see and hear the UUCC Worship Band playing an original composition by Sam Otten.

Here’s what’s new on our website since last Sunday:

Home Page Sunday Schedule – Next Sunday, May 27, we will begin our summer schedule of one worship service and one religious education session at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Julie Taylor, our guest preacher, will help us remember sacrifices for our nation from a UU perspective on this Memorial Day weekend. The R.E. children will have a Service Sunday – they will be making birthday bags for children at Rainbow House.

New Photo Page: Golden Rule, New Members, Bridging – The 11 a.m. worship service on May 20 featured a critique of the Golden Rule, a New Member Ingathering, and the traditional Bridging Ceremony for our high school graduates. See a slideshow with 12 photos on this new photo page. The Photos & Video page has also been updated to include a link to this new page.

Faith-to-Action Nominations – Our Social Action Team is now accepting nominations for 2018-19 Faith-to-Action collection recipients. You can nominate a recipient on this new page or fill out a paper nomination form. There is also a new red button near the top of the Home Page that will take you to the nomination page.

Here’s what’s new on our website since last Sunday:

Home Page Sunday Schedule – Worship services at 9 and 11 a.m. on May 20 will feature Sam Otten’s reflections on “Removing the Sheen of the Golden Rule,” taking a close look at the golden rule and some of its problematic features. The 11 a.m. worship service also will include a New Member Ingathering and a Bridging Ceremony for our graduating high school seniors. There will be a potluck after the 11 a.m. service to welcome our new members.

Also on May 20 we’ll be serving the evening meal at Loaves and Fishes – sign up here to prepare food and/or help set up, serve and clean up.

Stream Team – A stand-alone Stream Team has been established to monitor the health of a section of the Hinkson Creek, which is on the federal list of impaired waterways. Read about the team on this new page.

Annual Meeting – The Annual Congregational Meeting was held after the 11 a.m. worship service today. The 2018-19 budget was approved, and Mark Johnson, Mindy McPherson and Elaine Martin were elected to three-year terms on the Board of Trustees. The membership also voted to add a statement of purpose to the Endowment Fund section of the Investments and Endowment Policy. Larry Lile presented an interim report on the work of the Facilities Needs Task Force, and three annual reports were distributed. Read all about it on the Annual Meeting page.

Home Page Sunday Schedule – We’ll have a busy Sunday on May 6, including the always important Annual Congregational Meeting after the 11 a.m. worship service – read more about the meeting.

The guest preacher at the 9 and 11 a.m. services will be Jack Gaede, a ministerial candidate with a master of divinity from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, who is currently serving as the ministerial intern at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Kansas City, Mo.

In addition to the usual R.E. classes, Forum and Mindfulness Meditation in the morning, there will be a kickoff breakfast for the Green Sanctuary Team’s annual alternative transportation push. Afternoon activities will include YRUU, the K-2 OWL class, a “Getting to Know UU” session, and meetings of the R.E. Team and Social Action Team.
