Sanctuary Team

David and Moises Aguayo, immigrants from Mexico, were the first speakers at a rally on April 17, 2017 to publicize our decision to become a sanctuary congregation. See more rally photos.

On April 9, 2017, members of our congregation voted overwhelmingly to join the growing movement of faith and immigrant communities working to protect immigrants facing deportation by literally offering sanctuary to people who are at risk of being deported.

To further understand some of the deliberations that went into our discernment process, please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Rev. Molly provided before the congregational vote. See also Rev. Dottie Mathews’ Sept. 24, 2017 sermon, “Being Sanctuary” (PDF • audio).

Our Sanctuary Team is currently exploring ways UUCC can offer this kind of shelter if it were to become necessary for immigrant neighbors, and we are also seeking ways our congregation can support the dignity and worth of all people through other justice work in service of the immigrant and refugee communities in this area. Stay tuned to this page for updates and opportunities to join us in this effort.

Our team currently consists of:
