This summer, our religious education program will focus on the UU 7th principle – our interconnection with nature. We will offer two classes during our 10:30 a.m. worship service time.
The older children (3rd-8th grade) will be learning about deepening their connection to the earth, exploring spiritual practices, close observation, and ways we can care for the earth. In particular, we will focus on our relationship with the beautiful land upon which our church sits.
Younger children will be in our Montessori Spirit Play classroom, this summer with a focus on stories of earth-based religions and lessons on our 7th principle.
Both classes will be outside as much as is possible.
July 2018 R.E. schedule
- July 1: Intergenerational Worship Service
- July 8: RE Classes: Learning about Trees
- July 15: RE Classes: Rock Art
- July 22: RE Classes: Shelters
- July 29: Intergenerational Music Service
In September 2018 we will resume our schedule of offering children’s religious education classes at both 9 and 11 a.m. on most Sundays. The children will join their parents in the Sanctuary for the first 10-15 minutes of the worship service and then be led to their classes in the Lower Level by their teachers.
There will be no R.E. classes once a month when we have multi-generational worship services. On those Sundays, the children are invited to be with their parents/guardians in the Sanctuary the entire time. Also, there is a Service Sunday once a month when all or most of the R.E. children participate in a service project instead of having regular classes.
On all Sundays we will offer free nursery care for infants to 3-year-olds from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
11 a.m. R.E. classes will end at 12:15 p.m. Pre-school through 3rd Grade children will await pickup by their parents or guardians while older children will be dismissed to join their families on their own at that time.
Our spacious and well-equipped nursery is available for use at no charge during the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services. Our nursery class serves children from 4 months through pre-potty-trained 3-year-olds. Our nursery aides are contracted to have full responsibility for no more than three children each. Two aides work each Sunday. Parents and others are strongly encouraged to assist with care when there are more than six children in the nursery.
Mid-Summer Potluck and Board Games – 6 to 9 p.m. July 14
Church attendance declines in the summer, and it is always around mid-July that I start missing my church community. So let’s have a party!
Join us at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 14 for a midsummer reunion potluck and board games, with child care provided for the littlest. Bring a dish and some of your favorite games.
