Summer Schedule

Beginning May 14, 2017, there will be one worship service and one R.E. session at 10 a.m. Free childcare will be available from 8:45 to 11:30 a.m.

On May 21, the children will remain in the worship service a bit longer than usual and then go downstairs for group activities. May 28 will be a Group Sunday. On June 4 there will be an intergenerational worship service at Katfish Katy’s Campground and a Group Sunday at church.

Summer religious education classes will begin on June 11. Two classes will be offered:

  • Pre-K through 3rd Grade: “Spirit Play” curriculum (Montessori-inspired classroom).
  • 3rd through 8th Grade: Workshops led by different church members on different fun topics from yoga to theater games to creating a video podcast.

There is an overlap in age grouping between the two classes, and parents can decide which program is most suitable for their children’s interests and maturity.

In addition to our classes, we will also have several intergenerational services and Group and Service Sundays. Here is the schedule:

  • July 9: Intergenerational Service
  • July 16: R.E. Classes – Workshop Class: Theater Games
  • July 23: R.E. Classes – Workshop Class: To be announced
  • July 30: Intergenerational Service – Spirit Play for All
  • Aug. 6: R.E. Classes
  • Aug. 13: R.E. Classes
  • Aug. 20: Intergenerational Service
  • Aug. 27: Intergenerational Service
  • Sept. 3: Group Sunday

Our high school youth group, YRUU, will meet this summer from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Recent graduates from eighth grade are invited to participate as well. The teens will start making their summer plans at their annual retreat June 2-4. Our eighth grade graduates are invited to attend the second day of the retreat. If you have not already done so, please let us know if you plan to participate.

Fall-Winter-Spring Schedule

In September we will resume our schedule of offering children’s religious education classes at both 9 and 11 a.m. on most Sundays. The children will join their parents in the Sanctuary for the first 10-15 minutes of the worship service and then be led to their classes in the Lower Level by their teachers. The classes are described below.

There will be no R.E. classes once a month when we have intergenerational worship services. On those Sundays, the children are invited to be with their parents/guardians in the Sanctuary the entire time.

On all Sundays we will offer free nursery care for infants to 3-year-olds from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This past year’s 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday School programs are described below.

9 a.m. Sunday School

On Feb. 5, 2017 we began offering religious education at 9 a.m. in addition to the traditional 11 a.m. classes. The curriculum, called “Spirit Play,” is based on a Montessori approach to learning that encourages self-directed exploration and allows children to engage deeply with their own religious education in a way that meets their own individual needs and interests. There was one mixed-aged class, most appropriate for children ages 3-9.

11 a.m. Sunday School

We offered the following children’s R.E. classes at 11 a.m.:

Class Ages 2016-2017 Curriculum
Barnum (Nursery) 4 mos. – 3-year-old
Potter (Pre-School) 3-year-old* – Pre-K Chalice Children
Schweitzer Kindergarten – 1st Grade Love Surrounds Us
Thoreau 2nd – 3rd Grades Love Will Guide Us
Adams Family 4th – 5th Grades Love Connects Us
YUUTS 6th – 8th Grades Heeding the Call

* Potty-trained 3-year-olds are invited to attend the Potter Class.

11 a.m. R.E. classes end at 12:15 p.m. Pre-school through 3rd Grade children will await pickup by their parents or guardians while older children will be dismissed to join their families on their own at that time.

Our spacious and well-equipped nursery is available for use at no charge during the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services. Our nursery class serves children from 4 months through pre-potty-trained 3-year-olds. Our nursery aides are contracted to have full responsibility for no more than three children each. Two aides work each Sunday. Parents and others are strongly encouraged to assist with care when there are more than six children in the nursery.
