At a well attended worship service at 11 a.m. March 13, 2016, guest preacher Julie Taylor delivered a moving sermon titled, “News to Me.” Rev. Taylor said: “The killing of Michael Brown on August 9, 2014 changed my life. As a white UU minister living in St. Louis, I’ve had the opportunity to learn how race and racism affect me. This awareness has helped me be more effective working with the Movement and the community here.”
Rev. Taylor, a community minister affiliated with Emerson UU Chapel in St. Louis County, provides services beyond the walls of the congregation. Her ministry has focused on disaster and crisis response nationwide. She serves as a military chaplain and directs the Unitarian Universalist House of Studies at Eden Theological Seminary in Webster Groves, a suburb of St. Louis.
