The Honduras Ministry Team‘s fourth annual Founders Day Trivia Night fundraiser to benefit its work in Honduras was held Saturday evening, Jan. 28, 2017 at UUCC. The event featured cash prizes, child care, a silent auction, 50-50-raffles, a chili cook-off, and, of course, much trivia fun!
The results are still being tallied, but the final amount raised by the event will be almost $4,000. This amount together with monies raised at other fundraisers last fall will enable the Honduras Ministry Team to receive a $4,500 matching grant from the Inman Family Fund, which is a component fund of the St. Louis Community Foundation. the team is very excited about all the possibilities this money opens up.
Some of the ways the money will be used are:
- Purchase of materials to build latrines during the team’s trip to Hondurus in June this year
- Health clinic repairs and medical supplies
- Donation to the women’s microfinance group Adelante
- Scholarship funds for trip participants who otherwise could not afford to go.
The Honduras team also is considering bringing Cito, our organizer in Honduras, and his mother Rosario, founder of a sewing cooperative and community center, to visit us here in Columbia.
