Aug. 7, 2016 – A Busy Early August Sunday

On Aug. 7, 2016, UUCC was unusually busy for an early August Sunday. It was the first day on the job for our new Sunday Morning Assistant, Betsy Fritsche, who grew up in our church. Before and after worship, congregants had an opportunity to vote in the Greeting Area on Faith-to-Action Collection recipients for the coming year.

The lay-led worship service drew about 70 attendees who heard “Poetry of Witness” poems written by those directly involved in acute crises, like Hurricane Katrina, or long-running disasters, like the political instabilities in many African nations. Thanks to Marta Ferguson for organizing and leading the service! Syllabus – Poetry Readings

After worship, we had cake in the Greeting Area to celebrate Shanon Dickerson’s service as Director of Religious Education. Aug. 7 was her last day because she is leaving to take a new job at MU. She and husband Tim plan to remain part of our UU community.
