Current Curriculum
Barnum Nursery – Our nursery serves children from 4 months through pre-potty trained 3 year olds. Our trained aides provide a loving space for our church’s babies. Two aides will work each Sunday. Parents and others are strongly encouraged to assist with care of more than six children in the nursery.
Potter Class – Our preschool class is for potty-trained 3 year olds up to kindergarteners. The curriculum is Celebrating Me & My World. Through these lessons the children will learn about their wonderful qualities, and peek at the qualities of the things and people around them. These children will begin Sunday mornings in the Centering Room. After the welcoming rituals, they will go to their own classroom.
Schweitzer Class – The K-2nd graders will have lessons from Around the Church, Around the Year. These lessons will give the children the opportunity to learn to feel ties to our church community, as well as learning about the faith and practices of Unitarian Universalists.
Thoreau Class The 3rd-5th grade children will start the year with In Our Hands, a program helping the kids learn about peace and justice. Secondly, they will have lessons from Toolbox of Faith, which will invite the children to reflect on the qualities of our faith, such as integrity, courage and love, as tools they can use in living their lives and building their own faith.
YUUTS – Traditions with a Wink will teach our 6th through 8th graders an understanding of our Unitarian Universalist faith that will help them to replace the vague, “We believe anything we want to!” statement with “We come from a long tradition of questioning and searching. We come from a long tradition of loving kindness and good works.”
High School Sunday School – For the first time in many, many years, the Religious Education Committee has decided to offer a Sunday morning class for high school youth. The year will begin with Popcorn Theology. These lessons use films to delve into relevant issues, exploring how our choices affect our lives and the lives of others. They will help the youth understand ways in which the right of conscience often calls us to do what is right despite possible negative consequesnces. Paricipants will also be involved in a few services upstairs, and will have the opportunity to explore different topics through the use of games.
